The past one year, The Cup Pantai Indah Kapuk has been my go-to restaurant when I wanted to fulfil my craving for good and easy authentic Korean food. Don’t be fooled by its eye-catching pastel pop appearance as some of you might mistaken it as a desssert cafe (or probably underrate it).
For those who don’t know, The Cup is actually a franchise brand originated from South Korea and they already have several outlets spread all over Asia, back in Seoul, the concept is actually more like a fast-food restaurant, instead of the fancier one like in Jakarta. Do not expect food like Korean grill and BBQ here as they offer a different, but totally fun Korean dining experience. The ingredients are mostly still being imported directly from Korea (a good way to maintain the authenticity and quality of the products). I just love to describe some of their menus as: “Korean street food made fancier and more stylish” as you’re going to find some ttepokki, japchae, Korean chicken and jjigae creations.
Recently, they launched some of their new menus and you’re landing on the right page to find out the new additions they have in store!
Bibim Cold Noodle – IDR 68k
This following dish was a rather unique yet still quite enjoyable dish from The Cup, and is SERVED COLD (they even put icecubes underneath the noodle). The thin noodle somehow looked like the pho noodle and made from rice flour, and paired with chopped veges, beef and topped with quail egg yolk. The seasoning was actually pretty good. Even when I always prefer my food to be hot, this was still a good fit to my palate.
Japchae - IDR 85k
If you ask me to recommend you good japchae (Korean vermicelli noodle dish) that you can find in town, then The Cup’s Japchae certainly falls on the topper part of my list. The japchae was perfectly seasoned, resulting this very tasty japchae, altogether perfect balance of sweet, savory and a hint of smokey flavor from the beef too. I bet you’re going to love this.
Budae Jjigae - IDR 68k
This would be a great option if you’re craving for warm, soupy and comforting dish, when it comes to me, I don’t know why it’s always hard to say no to noodle soup, and in the Korean food case, the “Jjigae”. The Cup’s version of Budae Jjigae is simplified with elements such as beef corned, tofu, yellow noodle and all drenched in the mild-spicy soup. I personally could go spicier and expected the soup to be tastier, but it was very acceptable. I love how generous they are with the corned beef, just in case you miss the taste of meat to your noodle soup.
Go Chu Jang Pasta – IDR 65k
Now this is not the typical Korean dish I see quite often, but I am saying this in a good way complimenting how creative they are. I would describe this as a carbonara pasta with Go Chu Jang sauce. The spaghetti was perfectly al-dente with on point firmness. Just like most carbonara pasta, the cream might be quite thick, but I just love how the spicy flavor of the Go Chu Jang sauce balanced everything out. The fact that this dish consist of generous mushroom made this a proper fit for vegans.
Cheese Tteopoki (Korean Spicy Rice Cake) - IDR 75k
A MUST TRY FOR AVID CHEESE FAN! I don’t think I would speak much about the goodness of this dish as I think the picture can speak to you already. Perfectly cooked tteopokki with proper firmness, fish cakes & veges with spicy gokjujang based sauce, all covered in mozarella and cheddar cheese and topped with parmesan sauce. THAT CHEESE STRAIN THO!
Dubu Ori Gui - IDR 120k
Another personal favorite of mine: Dubu Ori Gui, it’s also a traditional Korean dish consisting of duck and soya beancurds! In The Cup, the soya beancurd was cooked in gokjujang based seasoning and the duck was lightly seasoned and cooked in smoking technique. The duck meats were tender yet beautifully tasty with a hint of smokey flavor to it & very fragrant as well, the soft soya beancurd gave in a little play of texture, in contrast to the duck.
Cheesecake Bingsoo - IDR 55k
Also for avid cheese fan, but this time: DESSERT! Bingsoo is South Korea’s traditional shaved ice dessert and The Cup is being creative by releasing this flavor. It’s fun, fresh yet slightly more sophisticated and fulfilling! The cheesecake bingsoo consist of milk shaved ice with generous cheesecake, wafers, raisins, almond, one scoop of Vanilla ice cream and dressed in strawberry sauce.
Personally, I found these new menus from The Cup to be very enjoyable, my personal favorites would be the Japchae and the Dubu Ori Gui, both were executed perfectly and “earned” the highest points based on my impressions, but still, taste is something that’s very personal, so I couldn’t wait for you to try it and drop your comments below.
