I don’t even know how to begin praising Tony Roma’s.
Most importantly, I don’t even know if I need to, simply because everyone else already did.
Even when you ask your own friends to recommend you the best ribs in Jakarta, I am confident enough to bet that the name “Tony Roma’s” will be on the list!
They currently just opened their newest outlet in MaxxBox Lippo Karawaci (just across Lippo Karawaci Mall and near Tamansari) Ground Floor, and I had my fabulous lunch there. The new outlet was not spacious, but there’s this warm & homey feeling to it with all the red and maroon shade, and I like how Tony Roma’s always keep it good & simple with all the design, as they DO know that it’s a restaurant, not a freaking theatre.
I had several dishes shared with my brother, we started our mealwith their signature mocktails. The mocktails were fruit based, sweet and refreshing, hence they’re ideal for the hot days! Kicked off the lunch with their famous The Ocean Feast consisting of calamari rings, crispy dori fish fillet, shrimps, crab-sticks and potato salad & corn on the cob! Generally the fried stuffs were amazing, perfectly cooked and deep fried leaving the meat still moist and altogether enjoyable and flavorful. The corn on the cob was naturally sweet so they didn’t need to do a lot to it. The highlight of this dish was definitely the crab-sticks and potato salad that you can ONLY have when you order The Ocean Feast, so it’s not sold separately on the a la carte menu.
The Original Baby Back Ribs - Half Slab
This needs no caption, those who have tried this must agree that this is probably the best ribs you can possibly find in town: thick, tender and meaty baby back ribs perfectly marinated, cooked and generously coated with their signature BBQ sauce. It’s a LEGEND! Those who haven’t tried it, simply need to have one.
The serving’s paired with two choices of side dish, mine were baked potato and french fries.
Grilled Chicken Spinach Stack
Grilled chicken topped with creamy spinach, artichoke hearts and topped with another layer of three types of cheeses. You know me, I am not a cheese person, but I DO need to try everything in order to give the judgement. To my pleasant surprise this was my favorite dish of the day (aside from their ribs of course). I’m always skeptical when it comes to chicken dishes and when I have the dry ones, I get turned off easily. Theirs was perfectly tender, and the cheeses brought the overall flavor character to another level. I like how you can have the play of flavor and texture from this dish. The more salty and savory chicken and cheeses meets the salty-sweet creamy spinach, and the turmeric rice for the texture. Interesting!
You know, it’s one of those restaurants that never disappoint you on each of your visit, and the fact that they’ve been here in the scene for 23 years makes much sense. Good luck always, Tony Roma’s! I know you’ll last long!
You can find their outlets in Thamrin Nine Podium, PX Pavilion @ The St.Moritz Puri, Gandaria City, MaxxBox Karawaci, and also Jl. Raya Kupang Indah No.11 Surabaya.
